LOS ANGELES WORKSHOP - OCTOBER 2018

Dreamy, Colorful, Cinematic Inspired Workshop

Los Angeles, California | October 13, 2018 | 10:00 AM - 7:30 PM

Details & Itinerary

This workshop will focus on shooting colorful, dreamlike images that portray a story behind them. Along with teaching you how to create dreamy scenes within your imagery, I will also be discussing how I have shot some of my most popular images. This workshop is NOT technical - although basic knowledge of your camera & its settings is required. We will be using a mix of colored artificial light and natural light that is available to us in the studio. This workshop is strictly artistic and will not cover the technical or business side of the industry. Attendees of this workshop must be willing to challenge their creative vision and be open to creating images that are raw with "imperfect" lighting conditions. Photographers that are looking to shoot clean, natural light images are not recommended to attend this workshop as it is directed at photographers who are looking to shoot cinematic editorial work.  Please see my portfolio and the images below to familiarize yourself with the intended style of this workshop.

________________________________________________________

10:00 AM to 2 PM:

  • How I come up with my photoshoot concepts
  • The equipment that I use to achieve this look
  • How I express my vision to the creative team (styling & makeup)
  • How to begin a shoot effectively
  • How I work with models in order to achieve my vision

After this, there will be 2 different photoshoots set up with 2 different models. As the group shoots with each model, I will be working hands-on with the photographers and will be available to answer any questions they may have along with sharing my tips and tricks on how to get the best shot. Each photographer will also be able to have 1-on-1 time with each model in order to get their perfect shot.

I will be using my Canon 5D Mark III with my 24-70mm f/2.8 Lens (and others). Please bring any lens and camera you have access to. Each photographer must bring their own equipment. It is recommended to have a lens with a focal length between 35mm and 85mm. Please make sure your lens is able to use an f-stop lower than f/3.0 as we will be shooting in low light conditions.

We will then have a 45 minute lunch break that will be catered. You are also welcome to bring your own lunch.

2:45 PM to 7:30 PM:

  • My personal process of how I choose which photos to edit
  • How to enhance the "dreamlike" effect on your images
  • How I usually color grade my photos (different ways for different lighting situations)
  • My skin retouching techniques (in detail)

I will be using Adobe Photoshop CC 2017 to retouch and edit. It is required that you bring your own laptop with you and have this program (CS6 or newer will work as well) installed.

After we edit together, I will sit down personally with each student and their photos. I will give them a 1-on-1 critique in which I will issue my personal advice on what I think they did very well during the session and what they could improve on in the future (editing & shooting wise.)

Additional Details

This workshop will be held at an eclectic warehouse in Central LA (details will be given to each individual in the final confirmation email)

Please bring your own SD cards or CF card readers (whichever one you usually work with) and any necessary cables. You will need to immediately import your photos after the photo shoot in order to continue with the editing portion of the workshop.

PLEASE KNOW THAT THIS WORKSHOP WILL NOT COVER SHOOTING FILM, IT IS STRICTLY A DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY LESSON (you can always apply the techniques to film, however.)
